ΕΝΩΤΙΚΗ ΑΡΙΣΤΕΡΑ

Σημαντικότατη απόφαση έλαβε το σουηδικό κοινοβούλιο την Πέμπτη 11 Μαρτίου 2010, αναγνωρίζοντας τις γενοκτονίες των χριστιανικών κοινοτήτων από τους Τούρκους εθνικιστές. Η πρωτοβουλία ανήκε στους Σοσιαλδημοκράτες και τους Οικολόγους.

Ο Σύλλογος Ποντίων «Εύξεινος Πόντος Στοκχόλμης» έβγαλε σχετική ανακοίνωση με την οποία χαιρετίζει και χειροκροτεί την απόφαση του Κοινοβουλίου για την αναγνώριση της Γενοκτονίας. Στην ανακοίνωση προστίθεται ότι ο σύλλογος πιστεύει «ότι η αναγνώριση θα δυναμώσει τον δρόμο προς την δημοκρατία του τουρκικού κράτους και την υπάρχουσα έρευνα για την γενοκτονία των Ποντίων».

Η απόφαση αυτή έχει μια επιπλέον σημασία γιατί λαμβάνεται λίγες μέρες μετά από την αναγνώριση της Γενοκτονίας των Αρμενίων από την Επιτροπή των Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων του Αμερικανικού Κογκρέσου…

Ο ποντιακός Ελληνισμός χαιρετίζει με ιδιαίτερη ηθική ικανοποίηση την γενναία απόφαση του Σουηδικού Κοινοβουλίου της 11.3.2010 να αναγνωρίσει την γενοκτονία των χριστιανικών πληθυσμών της Ανατολής (Αρμενίων, Ασσυρίων και Ποντίων), που διαπράχθηκε από τους Νεότουρκους και το κεμαλικό καθεστώς.

Η απόφαση αυτή, αποτέλεσμα των συντονισμένων ενεργειών του τοπικού ποντιακού σωματείου «Εύξεινος Πόντος Στοκχόλμης», του ποντιακής καταγωγής βουλευτού του Σουηδικού Κοινοβουλίου Νίκου Παπαδόπουλου και του πολιτευτή Τάσου Σταφυλίδη, επιβεβαιώνει για τρίτη φορά τις δυνατότητες που έχει ο Ελληνισμός της Διασποράς.

Προηγήθηκε η απόφαση της Ολομέλειας του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου στο Στρασβούργο τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2006 και η απόφαση της Πολιτειακής Βουλής της Ν. Ουαλίας Αυστραλίας τον Απρίλιο του 2009.

Εκφράζουμε την ευαρέσκειά μας προς τους βουλευτές του Σουηδικού Κοινοβουλίου που υπερψήφισαν την σχετική πρόταση, ιδιαίτερα δε προς τους Σοσιαλδημοκράτες και Οικολόγους που είχαν και την πρωτοβουλία της πρότασης.

«Swedish Parliament Recognizes Assyrian Genocide»

The Swedish parliament is the first in the world to acknowledge the Turkish genocide of Assyrians. The historical decision was taken after a long debate in the parliament on Thursday. It was an extremely narrow win as 131 parliamentarians voted for and 130 voted against. Hundreds of Assyrians had gathered outside and inside the parliament building in central Stockholm to witness the historical decision.

The Turkish embassador to Sweden was immediately ordered to leave the country and Turkish prime minister Erdogan announced the cancellation of his planned visit to Sweden the coming week.

Sweden’s pro-Turkish foreign minister, Carl Bildt was very upset by the decision of the parliament and warned it will harm Swedish-Turkish relations and Turkish-Armenian relations as the resolution called for the recognition of not only the Turkish genocide on Assyrians but also the genocides on Armenians and Pontic Greeks.

The Assyrians in Sweden have been lobbying their parliament for many years to recognize Seyfo, as the genocide is called in Assyrian. On Thursday they could finally celebrate their victory.

«ANCA Welcomes Swedish Parliament’s Recognition of Genocides»

Over strident opposition from the Turkish Government, the Swedish Parliament, today, adopted a resolution recognizing the murder and annihilation of the Armenian, Assyrian/Syriac/Chaldean and Pontic Greek populations by the Ottoman Turkish Government as “genocide,” reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

“Twice in just one week, we have seen legislative bodies-the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the United States and the full Parliament in Sweden-take a strong stand against Turkey’s threats against an honest affirmation of the Armenian Genocide,” said ANCA executive director Aram Hamparian. “We congratulate the Swedish

Parliamentarians-particularly those who defied party politics and foreign intimidation-to send a clear message that genocide must be condemned whenever and wherever it occurs.”

The Swedish Parliament adopted the resolution, Motion 2008/09:U332, by a vote of 131 to 130, overcoming an earlier Foreign Affairs Committee decision voting down the measure. In addition to recognizing the Armenian, Assyrian/Syriac/Chaldean and Pontic Greek genocides, the motion also calls on Swedish authorities to work with the United Nations, European Union and Turkey to secure international affirmation of this crime against humanity.

The decision comes just one week after the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee voted to adopt the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.252), by a vote of 23-22 – despite last minute opposition from the Obama Administration and over intense lobbying by the Turkish Government. A similar measure has been introduced in the U.S. Senate, S.Res.316.

The ANCA is continuing its “End Turkey’s Gag Rule” campaign, urging elected officials in the U.S. and around the world to reject Turkey’s attempts to silence international affirmation of the Armenian Genocide. For more information, visit http://www.anca.org/endthegagrule.
